The Princess Royal Thanks Syed Ahmed, Proprietor
of the Hook Tandoori
Her
Royal Highness, The Princess Royal paid tribute
to Indian restaurateurs for their generous support
of Britain's first National Curry Day when she
accepted a cheque on behalf of Save the Children
Fund for £24,272.52 raised so far. At
a presentation reception at the Stag Hotel in
London, The Princess Royal, President of Save
the Children Fund, said a personal 'Thank you'
to the 50 top fund raising restaurants.
As well as raising funds for Save the Children,
National Curry Day, which took place on 10th
November 1997 aimed to raise awareness and appreciation
in the UK of cuisines from the Indian subcontinent.
The Hook Tandoori was one of the participants
in the National Curry Day event. Syed Ahmed,
proprietor, said he felt greatly privileged
to have taken part in the event and help raise
funds for such a worthy charity, and expressed
his wish to continue raising funds for other
worthwhile causes in the future.

Hook
Tandoori has received the coveted Britannia Food
Safety and Hygiene Award which is presented by
leading environmental hygiene and safety specialists
National Britannia and endorsed by the RAC and
Egon Ronay guides.
Only a number of establishments receive this award
and the 36 seater Hook Tandoori shares this honour
with such renowned names as The Dorchester in
London's Park Lane.
National Britannia said "It is very difficult
to win the award in the first place but it is
a tremendous challenge to maintain the high standards
of safety and hygiene year after year".
Following a lunch when guests included Doctor
Hilary Jones of TV fame and Hart Council Chairman,
Cllr Charles Lynch, Mr Syed Ahmed presented 2407
Fleet Squadron Air Training Corps with a cheque
for £200 towards its minibus appeal.
Hart and County Cllr Keki Jessavala accepted the
cheque and thanked Mr Ahmed and the staff of Hook
Tandoori for this generous gesture.
Dr. Hilary Jones and his family are frequent visitors
to Hook Tandoori. "We like eating here and,
when we are short of time, we collect a takeaway
and enjoy it at home" he said.
Fund
Raising - Odium Cottage Hospital, Basingstoke
Hook
Tandoori was recently involved in raising funds
for the Odium Hospital in Basingstoke. The chief
guest was the Mayor of Basingstoke and other guests
included the Chairman pf Hart District Council,
Dr Hilary Jones and other well known celebrities.
The night raised £1,000 for the hospital and
everyone enjoyed a good evening.
